1. "Do you charge a markup on licensing fees?"
NO. We do not charge a percentage markup on licensing fees. The Six Degrees business model is built on the simple belief that a client should only pay for our time, expenses, expertise and knowledge. Negotiating on your behalf enable us to secure the best licensing fee, not what will give us a commission.
2. "What is your fee to conduct a Media Search or Rights & Clearances Request?"
All projects are assessed case by case based on our time, number of requests, degree of difficulty and resources needed. Please contact us to discuss your project.
3. "How do I know if something needs clearance or is in the Public Domain"
Copyright laws vary from State to State in the US and from Country to Country. While we are not attorneys, we do have staff that is proud to have a certificate on Intellectual Property which includes copyright rules, among many others IP issues.
4. "It sounds like we don’t need our attorneys if we use Six Degrees. Is that correct?"
No. Six Degrees does not give legal advice. We do work closely with IP attorneys and have extensive knowledge and experience in this area. You should think of us as your step before going to your attorney. However, in the end, you do still need your attorney to sign off on any decisions.
5. "Why would I use Six Degrees if most of the stock footage and photo companies are online?"
Certainly you can do this on your own. But as you may know, the process can be tedious and there are inconsistencies across companies. So when your valuable time and resources are needed elsewhere, you may need Six Degrees. We will edit all preview material down to the appropriate selects based on your request. These selects will be uploaded onto the Six Degrees Preview Suite eliminating the need for you to log into multiple web sites. Consolidating all formats onto OUR site organized by source, subject or however you prefer, allows you to preview thumbnails, add notes, share information and download content from one single place.
